‘Chrysalis®’ by Lightly

‘When a caterpillar reaches its full size, it prepares to turn into a chrysalis or cocoon. Some caterpillars attach themselves to leaves or, in this case, walls and form the Chrysalis, and certain species spin a cocoon around the Chrysalis. The caterpillar then metamorphoses into a butterfly.’

19th Jan 2009…Melbourne Design House Lightly has a new range of delightful products that will be launched this week at Craft Victoria Encounter Gallery. Davies has designed a new collection of angelic wall-mounted butterflies from recycled saucers entitled ‘ Chrysalis’ and new editions to their clock collection ‘ Time to Reflect’.

The darling range of butterflies Chrysalis are inspired by a butterfly’s beautiful life cycle and the metamorphosis process. Davies wanted to design a new treasure for their recycled crockery range dEco and was inspired to reflect a natural cycle of life with domestic recyclables, producing a beautiful, thought-provoking collectable to adore. Davies chose the use of a saucer due to the natural curve of the object, which would shadow the wings as if in flight, and China, which reflects the delicate nature of the butterfly.

Based in Melbourne, Cindy-Lee Davies is the designer behind Lightly. Davies draws on lovable memories of childhood butterfly collecting in the garden and beautiful discarded crockery as a source of inspiration for her new work.

She launched the company 2005 in homage to her grandmother, Rosemary Estelle Lightly, with the popular signature lace and doily-inspired range.

Plates are generally mixed floral saucers – Dalton, Willow, Johnson Bros, Royal Vale.

Designed 2008 Cindy-Lee Davies.

Lightly has recycled 10 – 15,000 English saucers since 2009.
