My father ignited my passion for welding at a young age. Living on a farm, I discovered joy in collecting scrap metals with my siblings from old machines, shaping them into creations, while also venturing to the dam to craft pottery on our bikes. Life was slow, imagination-driven, and simple.
In silly sibling rivalry, my brother and I would have battle-like challenges at the young age of 12 to see who could make the best item. Or at least whose weld would hold!
At 19, I established my first studio in a scrap metal yard, where I eagerly absorbed trade secrets from an elderly man named Flash, who was proudly clad in blue overalls. Soon after, I moved to Melbourne to pursue my studies in product design at RMIT.
As a maker, I draw inspiration from a diverse range of resources and experiences, but mostly it comes from the natural landscape around me.
Over the last 15 years, we have crafted forms from brass, copper, aluminium, and mild steel, with the mild steel pieces receiving a coat of our original, custom colours, thoughtfully designed in-house. More recently, we have returned to casting aluminium and finishing in Nickel.
Aluminium castings are created by pouring molten metal into moulds that are shaped according to a pattern of the final product. There are three common moulding methods used to produce these castings: die casting, permanent mould casting, and sand casting.
