Darry Dempster x Lightly
"Nature of Transition"- a heartfelt tribute to a goldfish.
As a proud Indigenous man from Gnowangerup (Esperance), Darryl's connection to the ocean and its rhythms has profoundly influenced his artistic journey. Growing up around the coast, he learned to appreciate the natural world’ cycles of life, death, and rebirth.
In these artworks, Darryl depicts a fish transitioning into a ghost fish resting, a symbol of stillness before the next journey. These images embody the beauty of pause and reflection, reminding viewers that even in moments of quiet, there is a preparation for renewal.
Since moving to Perth, Darryl has embarked on a creative journey, exploring various art
forms through DADA classes and collaborations with local artists. His limited verbal
communication is beautifully complemented by expressive hand gestures, allowing his art to speak volumes about his inner world.
Darryl's collaboration with Lightly allowed him to explore this theme through 3D shapes and exhibit in the Fremantle Design week exhibition sponsored and curated by Lightly. Cindy-Lee and Darryl also hosted a children's workshop.
The collaboration fostered opportunity and community, a value that passionately propels us forward as a brand.
